The Mediterranean is particularly vulnerable to climate change, evidenced by recent disasters such as large-scale flash flooding in Valencia. UMAR (Union of Mediterranean Architects) connects architects, institutions and governments at all levels—local, national and international—to help prevent and provide a response to these disasters. At CONSTRUMAT, specific emergency actions in Egypt, Greece, Italy, Morocco, Turkey, Portugal, Spain and other countries will be examined, analysed and discussed, as well as laying the groundwork for future collaboration with the European Commissioner for the Mediterranean and UNESCO.

In this presentation, we will explore how to apply circular strategies to construction projects so as to minimise environmental impact and maximise sustainability, by looking at case studies and examples of innovation. We will address the importance of regenerative design, resource optimisation and the new regulations that are driving this change in the industry. The presentation will be led by Acciona, a benchmark in sustainability and responsible construction, who will share their experience in the implementation of circular solutions that are redefining the industry’s future.

This panel will explore how technology is driving change in the design, planning and execution of construction projects. Covering everything from the use of advanced management software to the application of artificial intelligence, BIM modelling and process automation, panellists will share key experiences, challenges and opportunities for companies looking to adapt to an ever-changing environment. The Construction Labour Foundation is firmly committed to promoting and informing all workers in the industry on the different innovations which have a direct application to the construction industry as they are being introduced to the field of prevention. This is done through different channels, such as the web portal Línea Prevención, the PRL BIM application, 360º Preventive Practices Centre, and involving different tools as well like the AI cutting machine, special anti-heat stress clothing and other equipment for this purpose, close sheeting, machinery simulators, VR glasses, etc., as well as different digital tools at the service of the construction industry.
